New Orleans - Golf course and package status after Hurricane KatrinaIn August 2005, Hurricane Katrina left its mark on New Orleans though the vast majority of the damage was caused by the breaches in the levee system, which caused flooding in 80% of the city. Fortunately for most of the golf courses, their locations were not within the flooded areas.The Golf Club of New Orleans at Eastover had all 36 holes under floodwaters for nearly two weeks. The course will reopen the original 18 holes, designed by Joe Lee, in October of 2007.TPC of Louisiana suffered no damage from the flood but sustained wind and tree damage. Course reopened on July 15th. Big Easy Golf is taking tee-times now for play.Bayou Oaks, located within the city limits and close to the 17th Street Canal, which suffered the largest levee breach, is closed with a reopening date for the West Course scheduled for May.The following courses are open and available for play: English Turn, TPC, Money Hill, Beau Chene, Carter Plantation, Chateau, Oak Harbor, Stonebridge, Belle Terre, Covington and Timberlane.Accommodations are available and much of the city is back to normal with hundreds of the famous restaurants open. Other categories in the poll included top courses in value, top courses in pace of play and top courses in conditioning.
